The day that Brazil started a revolution
167 people were arrested. journalists and photographers were shot and arrested. the police threw gas bombs inside people’s houses, inside an old man’s car. police dragged injuried people out of hospitals to beat them and then arrest them. three hours after the “riot” was over, policemen dragged a couple out of a bar and beat the hell out of them, just because they were seen at the manifestation.
no, brazil is not the such a festive, colorful place. at least, not when the men who are supposed to protect the people, to watch over them are the first enemies.
The third action against the increase on public transport fares brought together more than 13,000 people to the streets in São Paulo, Brazil.
Protesters were brutally repressed by the military police and 20 people were arrested; initially, the authorities asked for a bail of $20,000 (USD $10,000). The protesters built burning barricades and destroyed buses and bank windows.
